As we gear up for the next module of Episode 5, we find ourselves immersed in chiptunes. The music for Aero's Freestyle Battle Royale will be partly gameboy generated and with The Blip Festival still echoing in our ears, we are excited to find that an excellent new documentary about the Festival and the chiptune scene in general will be showing at South By Southwwest Film and Music Festival! If you are anywhere near Austin, TX in March, go see this film and the handful of chiptune artists on hand to dole out the bits live on stage.
BLIP FESTIVAL: REFORMAT THE PLANET trailer from 2 Player Productions on Vimeo
The film documents the beginnings of the chiptune scene in New York City and the groundbreaking Blip Festival that grew out of it. It includes live footage and interviews with Nullsleep, Bit Shifter, Bubblyfish, Glomag, Peter Swimm, Mark Denardo, Mike Rosenthal from The Tank and a gaggle of fine chiptune artists from Japan and Europe whose work you have heard in TSL episodes.
If we haven't mentioned the authors of this film, 2 Player Productions, before, allow us to do so now. Put simply, they ROCK. Go to their Vimeo page and check out their other work, including a doc about Videogames Live. Marty O'Donnell is in the house!
